records and cassettes

Today I went through my parent's records and cassettes. Pretty awesome finds, but unfortunately my mother refused to part with albums I lusted after most. Oh well. Also, worked more on designs for Mexican paper banner, I have about half of the drawings I want done, BUT I need to go get more tissue paper.

Photos will be uploaded with tomorrow's post, as well as photos of a rocket I am building at the camp I work at! Wow!

hasta luego internet.

New Start at Art

Today I got sparklers, and my parents and I tested them out!!! Lots of fun. Also, I worked on creating a paper cutout banner for my new bedroom in Baltimore, inspired by a Mexican festival banner my Aunt gave me when I was in high school. The image posted here is just a draft attempt, but I started a new drawing which I think will look much cooler.

Its been awhile

I haven't updated in awhile, but I have been working. I just am not very good at putting work on the internet. I plan to do some more work, and to try and start updating daily to give my life more meaning. I have a lot of things in my head that I want to do, I just lately have such a hard time uniting the things in my head to the reality of my life that I end up paralyzed unable to create. Also sometimes I feel stupid creating because I am surrounded constantly by people who seem so much more into what their doing and to me art has always been something that I do because I have to not because I have an undying passion for it. I think that I haven't been making as much stuff lately because of that reason and I think it is allowing me to spiral into misery. So tomorrow when I get home from work, I am going to shower and then start to MAKE THINGS!

expect an update.

goodnight internet.

What I spent all day working on.
A Chapbook for my poetry class. I'm actually pretty proud of the poems I wrote today and kinda excited to read them tomorrow. Hopefully it goes well.
Also working on a paper tonight about Pre Historic Art. Hopeing to churn it out in two hours and go to bed.

I am super excited because once I finish this paper I am pretty much done with my academic work for the rest of the year. THANK GOD.

I want anything from this store. I think these crowns are the most beautiful thing ever.
I bought this clip that reminds me of these, but it wasn't built very well, I have more faith in these crowns.

My goals for spring have expanded to include:
get crown
get dress that matches crown
pass classes

Louise Bourgeois Show in DC

Today I went on a trip to the Louis Bourgeois show at the Hirshhorn in DC. I had previously seen her work on an Art 21 episode, and I think she is an interesting person, but the show didn't really charge me up in anyway. The galleries were too crowded and it was too rainy and the lighting though necessarily dim, made me uncomfortable. Growing up near DC, I have this fondness for museums in theory, but I think that's because my family and I would go not during peak tourist times, so in my head galleries and museums are more private then they are in reality. I really have a hard time enjoying any art when struggling to stay out of people's photos and to not crush small children.

Other things thought about today include how much I hate writing papers/ poetry and how tonight I will be doing both.
And I have to create a work of art about death due next week, still no significant break through on what to do there. I don't know why I'm having such a mental block on this assignment, death is something I've dealt with before and something that usually interests me. Hopefully by tonight I'll have figured that out.

Lego Project

In my class today we had sub, Howie Weiss. He brought with a huge bin of legos, and we created sculptures using them. I chose to limit my palette to the white legos, and it turned out pretty neat. Unfortunately, I didn't get to keep my sculpture, but there are lots of flicks of it on flicker!
